Now the apple had been so artfully made that only the red half was poisoned. Snow-White longed for the beautiful apple, and when she saw that the peasant woman was eating part of it she could no longer resist, and she stuck her hand out and took the poisoned half. She barely had a bite in her mouth when she fell to the ground dead.
Little Snow White, Brothers Grimm
In the Brothers Grimm story, the evil queen first disguises herself as an old woman pedaling wares - on the first try she sells Snow a lovely corset and laces it so tightly that Snow passes out. On the second try, she offers Snow a poisoned comb that leads to yet another near-death experience. All the while, the dwarves instruct Snow NOT to let any strangers into the house and not to trust anyone. Ah, but our sweet, naive Snow lets the evil stepmother convince her yet again to eat a poisoned apple. Now this was no ordinary apple, you see...this was an enchanted and magically tempting apple with strong magic attached to it that made her yearn for the apple more than anything she had ever wanted in her young life. Thus, despite Snow's innocence - and well, ignorance - this particular apple with its overwhelming magick is far more than just simple trickery.
