AQUARIUS TRAITS
Aquarius is one of the most complex and contradictory signs of the Zodiac. Assertive and independent Aquarius just loooves to be different! The Aquarian not only marches to a different drummer, they make up the music as they go along! The Aquarius personality can present as everything from shy and quiet to eccentric and energetic. However, they are always deep thinkers and highly intellectual people – do-gooders who love to help people. Aquarius is the sign of the visionary, of future and innovation. Often regarded as somewhat eccentric with a penchant for unconventionality, a progressive pathfinder, and sometimes a daredevil with an unusual way of looking at things. Creative, imaginative, intellectual, and endlessly curious, Aquarians are never boring - this is the sign of hopes and dreams! Outgoing and people-oriented, they easily attract friends wherever they go, people are drawn to Aquarius’ quirky enthusiasm and friendliness. They genuinely want to know what makes others tick, they possess a gift for dealing with personalities from all walks of life, and they never judge. Aquarians are among the kindest people you’ll ever meet - honest, helpful, altruistic and genuine.
The paradox, though, arises from Aquarius' primal need for independence and personal freedom, as well as innate stubbornness, which can give others the impression of being aloof, distant and detached. Known also to have a wicked sense of humor and a sharp tongue, with the ability to simultaneously shock and amuse, those who tangle with them quickly discover their intolerance for pomp and pretension. Their inflexibility shows up when others least expect it! When others disagree, they won’t give an inch. That Aquarian obstinance quickly turns into willfulness and rebelliousness that sadly often sabotages their relationships and further fuels their emotional distrust, feelings of insecurity and inner struggles.
For the Aquarian, the ultimate liberation is simply the freedom to be oneself. They willingly grant to others this same unalienable right. We’re all equal as we’re all human beings.

The Water Bearer
Aquarius is one of the largest constellations in the Zodiac. Located in a part of the sky called The Sea, so named for the several water-themed constellations located there, including Pisces the Fish, Pisces Austrinus aka the Southern Fish, Cetus the Sea Monster, and Delphinus the Dolphin. Although Aquarius is an Air sign, the Aquarius constellation is represented by the Water Bearer, portrayed as a man pouring a stream of water into the mouth of the Southern Fish. In ancient Egypt, the constellation Aquarius represented Hapi, god of the Nile River. This benevolent god distributed the Nile’s life giving waters, and the urn symbolized a fount of good fortune. Coincidentally, the names of Aquarius’ two brightest stars both correspond to luck. In Greek mythology, the water bearer is represented by the young and handsome Ganymede whom Zeus entrusted with the task of being the cupbearer for all the Gods.
Aquarius is unequivocally tied to an abundance of water, sometimes as a blessing and sometimes as a curse. The Water Bearer symbolically portrays a youth dispensing a gift that flows freely and equally to all - the rays of knowledge in great service for all humanity. The water that pours out symbolizes truth, which the Aquarian freely gives out to the world, dispensing their wisdom, observations, and opinions to one and all. The internet, for example, is Aquarius ruled, and serves as a perfect example of individual ingenuity in service of the collective in an equalitarian doctrine.
Problems may arise, however, when the Aquarian ego and strong-willed chaos sabotages the collective and their relationships. On one hand, the water represents the rebellious and dynamic nature of Aquarius, essentially their inner turbulent waters. On the other hand, the rational and practical Aquarian may find it difficult to allow their emotions to flow freely, leading them to feel trapped and stagnant. The Cup Bearer represents one lesson they must learn in life - to let their emotional side flow and open themselves up to vulnerability, while also learning the art of compromise and flexibility. Aquarius’ soul mission is to coordinate spirit and matter in new and revolutionary ways.

Air is the element that delivers concepts, ideas, and ingenuity.
Air signs - Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra - are the creative thinkers and follow their inquisitive nature to better understand the people and world around them. Our Iris Aromatic Body Mist honors the Goddess Iris of Greek mythology. Iris was the Goddess of the Rainbow and the Divine Messenger of the Olympian Gods ( for Hera in particular). As the personification of the rainbow, she was often depicted as traveling quickly on the rainbow bridge between Earth and Heaven. She was portrayed with wings, a herald's staff, and a vase....the vase because she was also a cup bearer for the Gods. A perfect complement to Aquarius!

PLANETARY INFLUENCE: URANUS
In mythology, Uranus (Ouranos=Greek/Caelus=Roman) was one of the primordial Titans, the Roman Sky God, the personification of heaven and sky, and the first ruler of the Universe. Fatherless, Ouranus was conceived by Gaia (Mother Earth) alone, became the father of all the other Titans, and was responsible for the creation of the first life on Earth. Uranus was a cruel father, hated his offspring and refused to allow them to leave the womb in Gaia's body. Cronus, with Gaia's help, castrated Ouranus and led the Titan rebellion against him. The OG original rebel with a cause!
Uranus governs everything related to rebellion, innovation, humanitarian movements, scientific and cultural advances, originality, and breaking with tradition. This is the rebel planet - the ONLY planet that spins on its side! It is the planet of sudden upheaval and the unexpected; its gifts are ephemeral and gone in a flash. Uranus relates to our inner will and personal power. Uranus is known in astrology as "the great awakener", whose energy invites us to examine and liberate us from outmoded cycles we get stuck in from time to time in our lives, how we can more effectively contribute to the common good, and empower us to express our uniqueness.

TAROT CARD: THE STAR
Each sign has a corresponding tarot card from the Major Arcana that symbolizes some of its characteristics. The art of the traditional Rider-Waite deck is what is used to make comparisons to the Zodiac signs. Aquarius is ruled by The Star card. Similar to the Water Bearer of the Aquarius constellation, the Star card depicts a woman pouring water from a vessel. In this case, though, the water flows from two separate vessels - one pours water onto the earth and the other empties into a body of water. She has one foot in the water, symbolizing intuition, and one on land, symbolizing stability. Aquarius is considered to be the humanitarian of the Zodiac, similar to the water-bearing woman who is providing nourishment for mankind while restoring hope for the future. Above her is a huge golden star with 8 points and around it are 7 smaller stars (representing the seven chakras/seven visible planets).The stars symbolize the card’s overarching message of cosmic guidance, hope and inspiration! Behind the woman is a tree, on which is perched an Ibis bird. The sacred Ibis in Greek lore was associated with Thoth, the God of communication, wisdom and divine knowledge, thus here representing the boundless intellect of Aquarius. If you’re a mature adult like me, you probably can’t read or say the words “Age of Aquarius” without this familiar musical refrain running through your head on repeat. LOL
But what exactly is the Age of Aquarius and when does it dawn? The term refers to an astrological age, defined by the relationship of Earth and the Sun to the cosmos. Roughly every 2,150 years the Sun moves in position and centers itself in a new constellation. The Age of Aquarius is said to start when the sun is in front of the Aquarius constellation at the time of the spring equinox (in accordance with “vernal theory”). It will take the Earth 25,868 years to visit all 12 signs (and remains in each for approx 2,100 years so our current lifetime will be dominated by just one sign). But the true onset of an age is difficult for astrologers to pinpoint exactly due to the enormity of the time span involved, slight overlaps in the ages, and other factors. Professional astrologers vary widely in their estimates…some say it occurred back in 1957 when the Russians launched Sputnik (Aquarius is, after all, a sign strongly linked to new inventions and flight!), others report various auspicious dates from 2011 to 2021. (If you felt like the pandemic era was a divide between the ages, you might well believe that the shift into a new era occurred in 2020 as many astrologers do!) Regardless of the exact date, there is complete agreement on one thing - we are indeed currently in the Age of Aquarius.
So what does that mean for us and what can we expect? Astrologers claim that the Age of Aquarius is meant to bring about social, political, personal, and ideological change. It foretells a time of collective responsibility, of more collaboration and more connections with like-minded individuals and a time of expanded consciousness, when we can take control of the earth and become more mindful of human rights. There will be more emphasis on freedom and independence, and perhaps revolutions against computer technology (suck it, Zuck and AI!) and the falling away of other outdated systems controlling our lives.
As we enter this new year, we may feel these shifts tugging at us stronger than ever, allowing us to take a deep breath of relief as this new era brings positive change to our lives. Yes, we will still have our daily struggles and we may even be at the cusp of a revolution of epic proportions, but we are moving forward in positive ways and leaving the old ways behind.
It is the way of Aquarius to act as the container for the healing of all humanity and help us create a new era of love and consciousness. Namaste.

The full Snow Moon is February's full moon, so named for the abundance of snow that falls during this winter month. The February 2025 Snow Moon falls on 2/12. In astrology, full moons are believed to symbolize completion and fulfillment. Imbolc
Imbolc (aka Candlemas) celebrates the midway point between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox (aka Ostara) and the approaching spring. We've curated roller blends for each of the sabbat stations on the Wheel of the Year. Our Imbolc blend completes our collection!
Occuring annually on Feb 1st-2nd, this Celtic fire festival celebrates the kindling of new life. The word ‘Imbolc’ itself means in the belly /in the womb which is a direct reference to a new stirring of life and possibility. The literal translation refers to pregnant ewes and the lambing season. Imbolc brings the first whispers of Spring as our days slowly become a bit longer, the Earth starts to thaw, and the possibility of new life feels ever present. Imbolc brings forward the promise of growth while we still have one foot in Winter and are likely feeling run down and ready to move on from the cold and dark. It is in these moments when it seems like Winter will never end and our gardens will not come back that Imbolc arrives, looks us in the eye, and asks us to trust the rhythm of the Earth. Our hearts crack open and our eyes well up because we can feel so deeply that we are on the precipice of a monumental shift.
Imbolc and its rituals are closely associated with the Goddess Brigid, a triple goddess of healing, fertility, childbirth, poetry, inspiration, and blacksmithing. Her triple goddess aspect is different than the traditional Maiden/Mother/Crone, and instead reflect her three distinct roles as the Lady of the Healing Waters, Goddess of the Sacred Flame, and Goddess of the Fertile Earth. Associated with fertility and fire, known as the keeper of the sacred flame, and honored as the guardian of home and hearth, celebrating and honoring Brigid can include bonfires, candle services, and other fire rituals around the hearth or outside the home. Crosses made of traditional reeds are commonly crafted on Imbolc.
