BEYOND THE GARDEN GATE....March arrives this week with the promise of spring pursed on the poetic petals of crocus, daffodil, tulips and iris. An emerald carpet emerges from the rain-soaked earth, studded with violets and lily of the valley; basal rosettes dimple the flower beds hither and yon in vivid greens and vibrant chartreuse.  A collective sigh of relief escapes from the earth and all its inhabitants – including us humans, as if in our genetic programming there yet persists the doubt that spring would come again.

Join us on the other side of the garden gate this month as we dig into all the possibilities that spring promises. Magic blooms and twines in the garden of our soul, inspiring our creative minds and awakening our hearts to new possibilities.

Our featured tale of enchantment this month is The Secret Garden. This beloved novel is, in fact, a sensitive and complex story, which explores how a relationship with nature can foster our emotional and physical well-being. The main characters, Mary and Colin, both suffering in their own ways from profound losses and wilting like plants in a forgotten and neglected plot (and both desperate for healing, but unable to do so alone), soon flourish as they discover the magic of nature; nurture and restore the secret garden and, at the same time, rejuvenate themselves. By tending the garden, they become stronger, healthier and happier, gain a sense of purpose and belonging, and awaken to the transformative power of hope….and magic.

The garden is a powerful metaphor for healing. By opening the door to the unknown, listening to the whispers calling you to take action, by focusing on something meaningful to YOU, by nurturing connections and planting new seeds of intention, by tending to things outside your grief or worries, you will align yourself with a wholly new story. The same magic that causes the plants to grow and the seasons to change is that which also offers us new life - if only we are willing to accept it. All it takes is the deliberate choice that we can change and once we open up to the possibility, well…truly anything can happen!
